It's the New YEAR(erm 7days too late)!! I haven't written since Christmas eve, but maybe it's cos I've been busy like arguing with the boyfriend among other things. I was also in Krakow, Poland.
Christmas was not very noisy and all. My neighbours, my boyfriend and I celebrated over lunch. We all cooked too much...each for 5 people...and thus ended up with food for 20-30 people! I got a gorgeous cookbook for Christmas, among other things. And my boyfriend gave me a wooden rocking horse which Nunkey can ride on. But it's nothing like Christmas at home. :(
On Boxing Day, I visited my friend Steffi and her family. I got so many presents from them! They're so nice and funny! I got a beautiful pink scarf, cookies, a mug, hot chocolate, a DOVE shower set, a friendship band and a candle holder among other things. They also gave me a pair of boots for the winter...but it hasn't snowed at all here..only twice in like the whole time we've being having winter. Sigh. We went to Moritzburg, this famous hunting castle near Dresden. The tour guide was totally lousy. She talked so fast and like was so off with her comic timing. I didn't know whether to laugh at the jokes or at her pathetic attempts to tell them. Her intonation was so off! But she really memorized everything so well. Pity she had ZERO enthusiasm.
On 27th Dec, we went to watch The Spongebob movie. I didn't like it that much. But I'm no Spongebob fan. But some parts were cute anyway.
Then a few days just passed like that.
On 31st December, my boyfriend and I went to his friend's place and we all made jiaozi. It tasted pretty good. We were all so full after that though. Then we went to the Elbe. I hated it there. The silly people were throwing firecrackers all over the place without thinking if there's anyone else there. Like they threw it behind their backs, or into a group of people. It was such a stressful time. I really couldn't stay there till midnight. I know it sounds cowardly, but I hate crowds and I hate firecrackers and fireworks. I felt like my heart was gonna give way anytime. But thankfully, my boyfriend was understanding. He even paid for the taxi home. We were actually in the taxi when it turned midnight. So unromantic...but oh well. I've come to realise that fireworks from a distance looks better than up close. The view from my room is actually quite good.
Then on 2nd Jan, I went to Krakow, Poland. The ride there was long! 10 whole hours. I thought I was gonna die of impatience. We could only go for dinner, cos it was so late already and we couldn't see anything. The food was cheap though. Much cheaper than in Germany. The restaurant where we went had a good ambience too. But after that we just went back to the hostel. The room was small, with just enough space between the beds to walk around. They had big mirrors in the room to make the place look bigger, I guess. The toilet was disgusting though..the toilet cover was falling off and there was no place to hang your clothes when you bathed. Gross! But not SO bad lah, at least there wasn't any shit or other stuff.
On the 3rd, we went to Auschwitz. There were taxi drivers who tried to sell us a ride there for 60 Zloty a person. The bus there cost 9 Zloty. You can imagine what we chose. Auschwitz was a depressing place. It's sad to see how all the Jews and other persecuted people were tricked into their deaths. There was no choice. How can humans be so cruel? I felt a bit sick. It snowed slightly, but nothing stayed on the ground. How sad.
On the 4th, it rained a lot! Azman bought a new umbrella, but it didn't help. The wind was too strong. We went to Wawel Castle. Quite nice, but not very very impressive or anything. We also went to a Synagogue to watch some films about Jewish ghettos. Sad. We had lunch at a Jewish cafe. The food was pretty expensive. What I realised is that the portions are smaller in Poland. But you don't really see many overweight Polish people around...so that must be the reason. We were tired after that, so we went back to the new hostel we booked. This place was like someone's house. It's run by 2 gays, apparently. It had a nice feel to it. We met this guy from Berlin, who was surprised that all three of us came from Singapore. Azman's friend's Indian, Azman's Malay and well, I'm Chinese. So we don't look alike at all. This guy actually came to Krakow to see snow, cos there was supposed to be a lot in Krakow at this time of the year. Pity there was like NONE. So sad! He's orginally from Dresden and he's been looking for work there, but so far he's only able to work in Berlin.
The return trip was horrible! The Polish train was like 30 min late and I missed my connection. The good thing was that there is a train every 20 mins or so. The bad thing was, my boyfriend was waiting for me at the train station in Dresden and my phone battery was dead and I couldn't get it charged. Sigh. We didn't managed to find each other in the train station, so I rushed home to get my phone charged so I could call him. He was still at the station. Sigh. I felt so stressed.
I was also stressed because of the phone call I received from the producer of the show. I'd totally forgotten about the show. It was in the back of my mind, but that the time passed so quickly...well, I didn't notice. There was so much to do. And now I still have lots to do. I'll be so glad when all the filming is over. The first episode of the show's over, and well, I haven't watched it before. I hope I didn't look dumb. The good thing about it, is that one or two acquaintances and friends I haven't spoken to in a while smsed or left messages to tell me that they'd seen me on tv. Well, it's not that exciting to me actually, but it was an ok experience. I suppose I've learnt quite a lot.
Better get down to work though...I have to finish it before the film team comes.
