A tale of two tours

The exhibition which I am in charge of is now open. In the last two days, I've had two tour groups, both of which are extremely different.

They are both from the same school. The first group was made up of little kids of about 10 and the second was made up of 17- or 18-year-olds. I thought I'd be more intimidated by the younger group because little kids are not as good as hiding their boredom and you have to try to simplify things because they can't understand such complex things and they lack background knowledge. Turns out the older kids were the more challenging group.

I had to modify my original tour for the younger group, but they made it interesting by asking questions, saying cute things and stuff. Some were really cheeky, but all friendly. When it came to the activities, they were really enthusiastic and that really touched me. They ran all over and let their creative energy flow...and they didn't mind sitting on the floor and that there was no exciting multimedia stuff for them to play with. They came up with extremely imaginative stories for the people in the ads. One girl said the woman in the Florena cream ad was 25, married, had 4 children, came from Egypt and lived in a house on the beach with 2 coconut trees. Another girl described the life of the tapir which is in one of the ads. Little kids are noisy, but they sure have some cute ideas. Although I probably couldn't face them every single day, I really enjoyed the session with them. They didn't have the cynical boredom of the second group.

After the second tour, I began to wonder if I was extremely boring. They were quieter but a lot more bored. I got so unnerved that I even forgot some things I wanted to say and even left out talking about a whole panel. The discussion was pretty interesting, but I felt that it could've been better moderated. Some points they mentioned were pretty interesting, but somehow there was this very tense and suspenseful atmosphere. Maybe they scared me and I didn't even dare to talk to any of them or ask them any questions. Maybe they were so big and mostly boys, so they didn't care about this little boring short person. Who knows? Well, there's another group of them coming next Wed...and if it is the same as them, either I will have to rethink my tour, ignore them, act more enthusiastic when talking to them, or ask more questions. Or just resign to the fact that I am boring. I dunno. I was so drained after that that I had to drink water and craved junk food. One of the guys kinda looked like Alexander Klaws, the first DSDS winner..only better looking...and one other guy was pretty cute too. But eye candy does NOT make up for that kind of torture. Well, maybe I should've walked around and asked them questions...but I didn't. Oh well, lesson learnt for the next tour.
