Some photos, then the World Cup report

It's half-time now...it's Germany 0, Argentina 0. I think both teams are playing super super defensively. At the moment, neither team has seen much action near the goal area...but the game is quite exciting. I wish they'd try not to foul so much though...it really spoils the flow of the game. I guess there's a lot at stake, so both teams are really cautious. Ball possession is 43% Germany, 57% Argentina. Earlier in the match, it was 37% to 63% or something like that. Now, THAT is embarrassing. I think Germany really has to start pulling up their socks. AND, Ballack should stop trying to score. I mean, it just doesn't seem to be his day...like during the match against Sweden.

Swimming this morning was tiring. The coach said my breaststroke at the beginning was really really good. Erm, but being the unfit person I am, I couldn't keep it up and by the end of the hour, my muscles were aching. I guess it's also got to do with not having swum in 2 weeks and also pretty irregularly before that.

The presentation today wasn't so good. I didn't manage to articulate my thoughts well. But at least everyone laughed at my Jürgen Klinsmann wallpaper. It makes me look like a Klinsi stalker...but I'm not. I just find his reactions to the goals really really funny. He's very silly and I like the photos they've taken of him. The one on Wednesday about Language Policy in Singapore was better...even if nervousness rendered me unable to pronounce "authoritarianism" properly. Some people even came up to me and said that they found it very interesting :) yay! But I know it wasn't one of my best presentations. But I am glad I was able to make it interesting for them.

We didn't play tennis today, cos it rained in the morning and the caretaker went home. While waiting for him, the rest of us decided to chat instead. There were only 6 of us today, including the coach. I still think he's really cute and I still have a major crush on him. Haha. Anyway, we were talking about the World Cup...it's nice to hear what the other people have to say about it. I've mostly been watching it with Jas and Jiat...it was interesting to hear more opinions...and we found out a little more about each other also. Not personal stuff lah, but it's interesting to find out more about people you usually only play tennis with and hardly talk to.

Ok, the match is back...updates soon!

YEAH!! Germany is in the semis!! It was 1:1 after regulation time. When Argentina got that corner, which was really nice, it looked like all was over for Germany. But thankfully, Klose scored his first header in an international match in 3 years and saved the day! Then there was a penalty shootout, which ended 4:2 for Germany. Yeah!! But at the same time, I feel very sorry for Argentina. They did play well. There's no denying that. But they were unlucky cos their No. 1 goalkeeper got injured in a clash with Klose and erm, I honestly think people shouldn't aim for the ground when shooting a penalty. The likelihood of the goalkeeper getting to it is higher. Ok, I know what I said is very DUH, but it's so true. I really feel sad for the Argentinian team though. :( They really were a good team...but they substituted Riquelme and Crespo...the playmaker and the goalscorer...so erm...well...but they really did dominate the game, especially at the beginning. And they are excellent at counterattacking. It was just really really unlucky. I feel sorry for them. Some of them were crying and so angry. I feel bad for the 2 guys that missed the penalties. It must be very very painful for them.

Neuville, Ballack, Podolski and Borowski...these are the guys who slotted in the penalties...and Lehmann did a good job stopping the 2 penalties that he did. I guess now no one can question why Klinsmann made him Germany's #1 goalkeeper. I would really have been sad if Germany lost. I've liked the German team since 1998 (Lothar Matthäus and Oliver Bierhoff (actually, I cannot really remember Klinsmann)) and now that it's in Germany, the stakes are even higher! The whole nation would be in mourning (this is one of the things we talked about during tennis (or the lack thereof)).

I'm really really happy for Germany!! Now it's gonna be Italy vs. Ukraine. Italy had better thrash Ukraine...the match between Switzerland and Ukraine was a real disaster! Hello, how can a team who gets into the 2nd round of the World Cup miss THREE penalties in a row? I think the 0-0 was not because both teams were just as good, but rather, just as bad as each other! As for Italy, I am totally impressed with Totti's penalty..so much was at stake and it was at such a crucial point...and he managed to maintain his inner peace and do what he had to do. You should've seen his eyes. Full of concentration and determination...someone who knew what he wanted.

I love being in Germany!!! I love the World Cup!!

Ok, it hasn't actually been that long since I posted...but I need to get a breather. I've finally completed the powerpoint for my presentation on Language Policy and Language Planning in Singapore! Well...not really...I have 20 minutes to talk, but 25 slides...shit. I am very very bad at summarising what I have to say. But I am glad that I managed to get some visuals to put in. After all, what pictures can you actually imagine when you think about this topic? I wish there was some ad that I could play for them, like the Pierre Png one...that would've been funny. But maybe I will use one of the online lessons they have as an example. The handout's done as well, so now I will have to watch FIRE, which is the topic of my other presentation. My partner seems to be a techno-phobe and she wants to use transparencies..and does not wanna show any film clips. Erm...how do you do that when you are presenting a film? Oh well, I guess I will have to look for some scenes to show...the controversial ones...since I am going to be dealing with the controversies surrounding the film. Only have 7 minutes though...I have no idea how this is going to work out! Blah...I wish there was some way to train my summary skills.

Jiat Ling's here in Dresden now. Well, today she's off at Meißen with Kenny. I'm so happy that it worked out! I mean, that they can go together to explore Meißen and I can stay at home and watch the movie and work on my presentations. It's really a relief. I also realise that I get along better with some people that others..and maybe I really am a tad to childish and silly for most adults or people my age. But I don't wanna grow up. I don't wanna be serious and sombre the whole day...though ok, I am quite serious when it comes to work. You should see my presentation. Absolutely no humourous anecdotes. Ok, maybe it has to do with me having a weird sense of humour that hardly anyone understands.

In any case, I'm glad for this breather. It's nice to only think about myself for a while.

Oh, might I add that guys are pretty unreliable, unless they're interested in you? New lesson I've learnt.

Yay! Germany's beaten Sweden!!! Not that Sweden was playing very well, but well, a win is a win after all. Now we'll be meeting Argentina on Friday. If Argentina played the way they did against Mexico, then Germany just might have a chance. I fell asleep during the last 10 minutes of regular playing time...and woke up AFTER the goal Argentina scored...haha. England and Ecuador...two not very spectacular teams...wonder who will win. As for the Portugal vs. Netherlands match, I'm hoping Portugal will win...FIGO!! Haha.
