Life...and other afflictions

The rantings and uninteresting events of my life

I decided to get off my lazy butt and update now because I'll be going to Copenhagen tomorrow and when I come back, I'll certainly have more to blog about!

Went to the Stadtfest with Raymond on Saturday. Actually ended up buying the Adidas jacket...but a bit too patriotic to wear it here...so maybe will bring back to Singapore. We kept popping into shops (it was all my idea) and ended up spending more money than I wanted to. Went to Hai Au for lunch...the waiter recognised me because I've gone there quite a few times in the past couple of weeks. I forced myself not to eat the noodles with spring rolls and fish sauce that I really love (cos I always order that! So I ordered pho instead). After lunch, we walked down Hauptstraße. There wasn't actually that much going on there...was wondering like where the REAL celebrations were. Along the way, we stopped for ice cream. Well, actually, we'd actually already surveyed a few places, but being the picky person I am, I refused to settle for a place that didn't have sugar cones...cos I hate the McDonalds type(I think it's called a wafer cone)..it tastes like cardboard. If people give me that, I'll throw away the cone! So anyway, we finally found a place...but had to order 2 scoops cos they gave the cardboard cone for single scoops. Yucks. Anyway, the Schoko-birne (chocolate-pear) flavour was "absolut HAMMERMÄßIG!!", as Dieter Bohlen would say...but the vanilla was a real let-down. Well, I guess that's cos I love vanilla ice cream and hence have eaten lots and lots of different ones...so I know which kinds I like and which I don't. We then saw a sign for Grillhaxe...*sigh* I commented that I wish we hadn't had lunch because I was craving Schweinehaxe...or just a HUUUUGE piece of meat but Schweinehaxe is the epitome of meatiness! We decided that we'd go back for dinner. Then we crossed over the bridge and finally came to the REAL Stadtfest...I mean if Dresden had celebrated its 800th anniversary on Hauptstraße alone, it would have been a real disappointment. But wow...it was huge! There was soooo much to eat! We just walked around looking at all the stuff we had and regretting that we already had lunch. We saw this man-powered Ferris Wheel for kids. One of the guys operating it was pretty cute. Raymond helped me to take a photo of him...but he missed the moment when the guy looked up and smiled. Sigh. Oh well.

Then Raymond got another beer and my feet were going to die, so we took a rest outside the Zwinger, facing the Semperoper. I love Dresden!! I love sitting there and staring at the gorgeous buildings. Maybe to many people, there are more impressive cities, but I love Dresden. There's nowhere else in the world I'd rather be, if I had to sit around and admire buildings and riverviews. Time passed pretty quickly...and it was time for dinner! Or rather, we got un-full enough to go get more food...we had potato wedges, Hexenkessel (it was just plain old lentil soup in bread, but Raymond, being slightly drunk and/or weird, insisted that it would give us magical powers...right...I think the cook needs more magical powers because I can cook better than that...heck..probably most people could) and then Raymond bought some Middle Ages-type shirt before we crossed the Augustusbrücke again to the Neustadt...we went back for the Grillhaxe, you see. It was worth it..and pretty cheap. Cheaper than in a Brauerei anyway. On the way back, we stopped at the Augustusbrücke and sat there for a long long time just admiring the scenery...yes, it really is my favourite spot to sit and just admire the Elbe and the gorgeous Dresdener skyline. I think I will try to wake up early and go there more often now that it's still summer and it gets bright relatively early. I love the view and it's gorgeous when the place is empty and it is silent.

Was really tired by then, but I couldn't sleep cos I drank too much coke...too much caffeine in my bloodstream, so I went to talk to Mai and Fu Wei for a while.

Sunday was uneventful, so I will leave it out...am very sleepy too...maybe will continue about this week when I get up tmr morning. But I had a lot of fun, thanks to Angeline, who was in Dresden for a visit. More details soon!
