Life...and other afflictions

The rantings and uninteresting events of my life

I don't believe it...the temperature is going to drop to -11 deg C on Monday. It's 2 deg today and already I hate it. How am I going to drag myself to class on Monday?? But I have to go. We're gonna collect our take-home exam on that day! And I have to observe the German class, cos I am going to teach on Wednesday. Sigh. How to escape? I'll probably have to put on everything I have and bring two scarves...one to wrap my whole face with! And two pairs of gloves...eeps. How will I do this??

Thanks to my stupid discman listening session, I didn't hear the intercom...and now I have to go to the post office to collect my packages..my family sent me one, but I don't know if it has 2 parts or if someone else sent me something. In any case, I can't imagine having to walk to the post office tomorrow if the ground is as slippery as it was this morning.

Speaking of stupid, I think I might've taken the cake. I actually wrote the wrong address on a postcard...I didn't just send an email to the wrong person...I WROTE the WRONG address. Oh man oh man! Can it get any worse than this??? What has become of me?

Just when you think you've done everything there is to do, something else comes along...sigh. I went to see the prof about my special topic today. She was like, how may I help you? "I am doing my Zwischenprüfung this sem." "Huh? This sem? I had the feeling I've known you for a lot longer!" Oops...haha...so paiseh. To be honest, I planned to be super efficient and finish my studies in less than the regulation time...but I ended up taking half a year longer. Oh goodness.

Anyway, I am supposed to go see another lecturer for a reading list for my topic..and then I have to submit the list. She has her office hour on Tuesday, so I guess I'll head over there on Tuesday..and to make it not so blah, I'll go watch "Memoirs of a Geisha" after that...yay! After that though, I have to start working super hard...have to study like a maniac, because I do not wanna disappoint my lecturers or myself.

I really didn't wanna go swimming today, cos the damn weather is...is...freezing. It snowed and rained and rained and snowed. So sian ah! I wore 4 layers and felt like I was freezing! But swimming itself wasn't too bad...same as normal, except with fewer people, which is good...I HATE crowded swimming pools. But I am glad that I went...because once school closes, I'll have to pay extra to go swimming...and I don't wanna do that. I will wait till I get back to Singapore, I guess. More fun with sun anyway!

I wanted to watch "Memoirs of a Geisha" today, but decided to come home and dump my groceries first...and check if any of my neighbours wanted to go too..but no one's home..and so I got too lazy to leave the house again. Will go on Tuesday though. Wanted to post something too, but I forgot to bring it out...so dumb! Sigh.

Am very hungry...will go heat up my vegetable couscous!

Here are some photos from our joint birthday celebration last night! We waited till really really late..cos Phuong had something on...and she got back at around 9pm. We were all like starving by then! But there was a lot of good food. Phuong brought back fried rice and crispy duck. The crispy duck was great! I ate a lot of it! I also made vegetable couscous, which didn't taste very nice anymore cos it was cold...so I have the leftovers to eat for today and tomorrow. It actually tasted quite nice when I heated it up again. I added some parmesan...which was good! I think I'll add some the next time I eat it again (tomorrow lunch and dinner, probably). The Reisfladen didn't turn out so good...but it was my fault. Oh, the Milchreis bit turned out fine! Milchreis is simple and tasty...am definitely going to buy some home and make it for my family. But the "fladen" bit was a bit tricky...I didn't read the instructions properly...so it kinda ended up wrong...I didn't manage to rescue it...but when I ate it this morning, I quite enjoyed it...I do kinda like the taste of yeast...haha! Ah well, the pandan cake I made for my birthday celebration last year was a flop too, but everyone's allowed some mistakes in their lives.

We also played with this grill-like thing that Fu Wei bought. I like cooked ham a lot!! But I didn't eat that much, cos I was too lazy to "cook". What I really really liked, however, was this banana sago thing that Mai made! I ate like 4 servings of it...I love anything with banana in it, actually. Banana is my absolute favourite fruit...next come pears, then canned peaches, then grapefruit, then Royal Gala apples. I love sago too...so banana, sago and coconut milk was simply the ultimate dream combination for me!

I'm probably going to bake chocolate muffins sometime this weekend, because I need to finish up the rest of the butter and the chocolate we used for Fu Wei's birthday cake a while ago. Also, it would be nice to give Fu Wei something to eat before she goes home to celebrate Chinese New Year with her family (she's leaving on 24th Jan). I think it's really fun to have other people to cook for. I am hardly inspired when I only have myself to cook for.

My family sent a package to me last weekend. I hope I get it soon...though I'll be a good girl and not open it till my birthday. Ain't getting many presents, so I really treasure every single one that I've got.

Oh yeah, my Anglistik Zwischenprüfung will be on 13th Feb...which means I will fly back to Singapore on 2nd March...right after my DaF Zwischenprüfung. I have to study so so so much harder over the coming weeks, but I will really really get to enjoy my time at home then! And boy am I looking forward to it!

Revised some Swedish today, but didn't get very far. There were lots of distractions. Will try harder tomorrow.

The weather here sux. It rained a lot this morning. I was considering ponning class, cos I hadn't slept enough either...but I went in the end, even if I already had my Schein...and I am glad I went. Today's class was super interesting. It's seminars like these which make going to university worth it! The class I am talking about is Intercultural Literature. Our seminar is on Indian prose. I've learnt so much this sem...I have to remember to thank the prof at the end of the seminar for a thoroughly exciting time! Even if some of the presentations, like mine, really sucked. We had a repeat topic today though...some girls happened to choose the same book...and the prof didn't realise it. I was like, "Erm, didn't we already have a presentation on this book?" And when I started giving a one sentence plot summary, the people presenting were looking super freaked out, as if they'd seen a ghost or something. Haha...turns out we DID have a presentation on this book, on 21st Jan..but the 2 presenters weren't there...and neither were half of the people present. That's the problem with a class that has no attendance list...but what to do? I know most people don't even come except for the day of their presentation. But it's their loss, really. This class is one of the more educational and not boring ones I've been to.

Ok, should go sleep soon...have Czech class tomorrow...then have to go see the prof about my "special topic" for my Anglistik ZP...then swimming, then grocery shopping! Phew.
