800 Jahre Feier Nauendorf

The village that Marcus' relatives live in celebrated its 800th anniversary during the weekend. It was quite cool...except the weather wasn't being very cooperative. There was a thunderstorm right in the middle of everything!

Marcus and I woke up early and put on our new clothes (which we bought a few weeks before) and drove to his grandma's place. Everyone was there...his parents, his sister, his uncle and aunt, his grandaunt and of course his grandma. After awhile, we walked to the sports hall together..it wasn't far from their place and it was very nice actually. The whole place was crowded with people and mostly everyone knew everyone else. It was near the school that Marcus' mum and sister went to when they were young.

After standing around for a while, the mayor started giving a speech which no one could really hear..haha. Everyone just clapped at the appropriate times. Then everyone moved off to the field where the event was declared open. There was somehow a king and his bride there...think they are from another village.

After that, we went into the school to watch some old videos..it was really cool...black and white films which the people had made themselves in 1962 and 1974. I was getting hungry after the first film though...but had to tahan until the second film was over. Was very exciting, but I was too hungry to enjoy it.

3 Flags of the area

I had a steak and french fries for lunch..Marcus and I shared a drink...there was singing in the huge tent where many people were having their lunch.

Family in the tent

Marcus and I decided to get ice cream...the vanilla was good.

Watched a men vs girls football match before it started pouring

After we walked a round of all the stalls, it started pouring like crazy...and there was a thunderstorm right above us. We all squeezed into the smaller tent because it was the nearest. Marcus' dad said, "Are you scared too?" haha...and when I nodded, he gave me a hug. Marcus was outside at the grill station because he went there to talk to his uncle. When the rain got a little lighter, I went to the entrance and waved at him and he came to join us. When it more or less stopped raining for a while, we went back home and had cake and coffee (or tea for Marcus and me). After running around the house looking for things and stuff, we decided to drive back to Leipzig while the rest went to enjoy the rest of the festivities..by then the weather had gotten better , but we were tired and wanted to go home and rest. It had been a fun day though, and we finally got to see what Marcus' sister's new boyfriend looks like...after waiting for quite a while...heh.
