Life...and other afflictions

The rantings and uninteresting events of my life

The sickly sweet taste of cough syrup is still lingering in my mouth. More than a week after I started feeling the beginnings of a sore throat, I am still in the midst of my cold or whatever it is that is attacking my body.

Last Monday the first time I actually went to see a doctor in Germany..well, Hausarzt, I mean. Anyway, it was the usual case of waiting forever and getting to see the doctor for less than 5 minutes. However, the weird pills she gave me to "strengthen my immune system" did not work.

On Friday, I was back at her clinic and she gave me a prescription for cough syrup with codein...which, as some of you might know, is a controlled drug because there are quite a few abusers. However, there are quite a lot of side effects and I felt nauseous the whole evening and eventually had to throw up (I haven't thrown up in more than 10 years). A cough medicine that causes more side effects than helping my symptoms? No thanks. Marcus came home 2 hours earlier from work cos he was worried about me (I didn't call him and beg) and told me to hang in there and that he'd go to the Apotheke the next day and get cough syrup (one that he thinks tastes good) and something for my runny nose.

Actually, Marcus had wanted to come over to Dresden this weekend so we could move things to his place. But I couldn't sleep well from all my coughing..and when awoken by a bank manager at 2am on Friday, I felt that was the last straw. I really needed to see the doctor and I didn't have any überweisung to give a doctor in Dresden, since I went to the one in Leipzig. So I decided I'd go over to Leipzig instead. Thought I'd take the first RE over to Leipzig, put my stuff at Marcus' and then go to the doctor when it opened. However, things didn't work out so perfectly because my Internet wasn't working (they've decided to turn off the Internet to blackmail people into becoming administrators...boy am I glad to be leaving the place and never going back!). So I had to call Marcus to ask him to check the bus times for me...the bus left at 3.47, so I decided to pack my stuff and shower before leaving.

I ended up missing the bus somehow, so I walked about 20-25 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof...and was happy to be in the train. Thankfully it's summer and it was already getting bright at that time.

When in Leipzig, I took the tram and then walked to Marcus' place because I once again missed the bus. When I opened his door, Marcus was already half-awake but still lying on his bed. Man...even by then it had been a long day..it was already at least 6.30am.

Anyway, we decided to drive to Dresden on Saturday morning and either come back on Saturday evening or Sunday morning....because I really still had way too many things which I needed to move over to Leipzig. We went to the Apotheke first, where Marcus bought a cough syrup (couldn't get the one he wanted), sore throat tablets and a Nasenspray for me.

Then we drove to Dresden and went to REAL to buy groceries. Our dear Marcus doesn't eat beef, so the poor guy at the meat department had to go process 5kg of meat just so Marcus could have 300g of pure minced pork. Sigh. But ok, if you don't ask, you don't get.

We had lunch at McDonalds...had a Happy Meal and Marcus was thrilled with the Shrek toy because it burps. Went to OBI to get packing cases and then drove back to my place.

Spent quite a while packing. Felt dizzy from all the running around in circles, so I had to lie down for a while...then I ate some grapes cos the sourness helped a bit. Then I asked Marcus if we could drive back to Leipzig because my room isn't very nice now...all the posters and postcards have been taken down..and the room is as white and bare as I once entered it. Marcus may have to come over once or twice more so we can get the rest of the stuff out. Have to start eating all the food I have now..so that there won't be too much to bring over to his place. Still trying to sell stuff man. I still have books I don't need but no one seems to want them. Sigh. Well, let's see what I can sell off.

Ok, and now I have to prepare for my Swedish presentation on Wed...sigh...more stress. I hope I have my voice back by Wed. I hate being sick! I am like a little kid when I am sick...poor Marcus always has to put up with me. Ah well, I'll back in Dresden tomorrow!
